How to play Block Skyline, plus 10 tips for a higher score

Updated October 2026 · 3 min read

Block Skyline is a calm block puzzle on an 8×8 board. You place pieces, clear lines, and every 3 lines add a floor to your tower. There is no timer. Here is how it works, and how to climb higher.

How to play

  1. 1

    Look at your three pieces

Each turn you get a tray of 3 pieces. Use them in any order you like. A new tray arrives once all three are on the board.

  2. 2

Drag a piece onto the board

Drop it on any empty spot where it fits. Pieces can't be rotated, so each one goes down exactly as it's shown.

  3. 3

Fill a row or a column

A complete row or column clears right away. Rows and columns can clear at the same time. The blocks around them stay where they are.

  4. 4

    Build your tower

Every 3 lines you clear add 1 floor. Every 25 floors is a milestone.

  5. 5

    Chain your clears

Clear lines on moves close together to build a combo. Reach the third clear in a chain and Rush ×2 begins.

  6. 6

    Play until nothing fits

The game ends when none of the pieces left in your tray fit on the board. Your best score and best floor are saved.

10 tips for a higher score

Read the whole tray first

Before you place anything, look at all three pieces. Order matters. A piece that fits now may not fit after the next one lands.

Keep the center open

Fill along the edges and corners first. An open middle gives big pieces somewhere to go.

Always save room for a 3×3 square

After the first few trays, harder shapes join the mix: the 3×3 square, the 5-long bars and the S and Z shapes. They show up more often as your tower grows. Keep one 3×3 space free if you can.

Keep a lane for long bars

A 5-long bar needs five free cells in a straight line. Since pieces never rotate, a flat bar needs a row with room and a tall bar needs a column. Try to keep one of each.

Avoid single-cell holes

The 1-block piece is one of the rarest shapes. A lone empty cell can sit there for a long time and block a whole line.

Clear several lines at once

One line is worth 80 points. Two at once are worth 240, three are worth 480 and four are worth 800. Line up a row and a column that finish together.

Keep your combo going

Each clear in a chain raises your combo: ×1.5 on the second clear, ×2 on the third. A combo survives two moves without a clear. The third move in a row without one resets it. So when you can't clear, you still have a little time.

Get ready for Rush

The third clear in a combo starts Rush ×2. It lasts 6 moves, and every move that clears a line during Rush doesn't use one up. Before you trigger it, line up a few almost-full rows so you can keep clearing.

Think in floors, not just points

Floors come from lines, 3 lines per floor. Clearing often is what makes your tower grow. Your best floor and your best score are both saved, so you can chase either one.

Take your time

There is no clock. Pause, look, then place. If you close the app, your run is saved and waits for you.

FAQ

Can you rotate pieces in Block Skyline?

No. Every piece goes down exactly as it appears in the tray. Some shapes come in several orientations, and each one is a separate piece.

When does the game end?

When none of the pieces left in your tray fit anywhere on the board. Once per game you can tap "Keep going". It clears the 3 fullest rows and gives you a fresh tray.

How do floors work?

Every 3 lines you clear add 1 floor to your tower. Lines cleared at the same time all count. Every 25 floors you reach a milestone.

Can I play offline?

Yes. Block Skyline works without Wi-Fi, has no ads and needs no account. The leaderboard syncs when you're back online.
